Indigo Dye Workshop

Saturday, September 19

11 am-3 pm light bites and beverages (included) will be served at 11, followed by workshop.

Taught by Los Angeles designer and creative Kari Bradbury:

In this class I will be walking you through the steps of Indigo dying. You will learn various Shibori techniques of folding and binding the fabric to create resist. Everyone gets a turn dipping their creation into the indigo vat, pulling it out to oxidize and then to unbind for the best part; the pattern reveal! You will get to go home with your design. Class provides: gloves, indigo vat, binding supplies and your choice of dying either: one tote bag and one tea towel or four napkins. Please wear old clothes as this can be a messy craft.

Bio:
I’m a footwear designer by day, and a textile Dyer by night.  I started experimenting with different dyes a few years ago, and I just can’t stop! Most recently, I’ve been experimenting with natural dyes from food scraps (avocado stones and peels and turmeric) and local plants (eucalyptus and jacaranda flowers). I love the reveal part the best. It’s addicting to unwrap the textile and see how the dye has taken to the fabric in so many unique patterns. I also love that dyeing a stained shirt or tea towel gives it a new life.
